Everyone at Animal Kingdom's rope drop makes the same move: sprint for Avatar Flight of Passage in Pandora. Don't. It's the park's heaviest line pretty much all day, typically 50 to 65 minutes, and it doesn't really ease up until the last two hours before close, when the median drops to about 35 minutes. The rides that are actually cheap early are Na'vi River Journey next door in Pandora and Expedition Everest in Asia, plus Kali River Rapids once it opens, later than the rest of the park. Kilimanjaro Safaris runs on its own clock too: it peaks by mid-morning, then collapses once the afternoon clears out, so push it back past 3pm. Bank the walk-ons as they open, let the safari cool off, and close your night with the ride everyone else fought over at rope drop.
The one thing
Flight of Passage is the ride everyone remembers, so it's also the ride the rope-drop crowd sprints for. That's exactly why you shouldn't join them. It typically runs 50 to 65 minutes and holds there most of the day, only easing to about 35 minutes in the last two hours before close, its one real dip. Spend your morning on Na'vi River Journey and Expedition Everest instead, both close to a walk-on right at open, then pick up Kali River Rapids once it opens, later than the rest of the park. Push Kilimanjaro Safaris to after 3pm, once its own morning peak has collapsed, and save Flight of Passage for the walk toward the exit.
Be inside for Early Entry if you have it
Disney Resort hotel guests, and select other hotels, get into any of the four parks 30 minutes before official opening, every day through 2027, with valid admission. At Animal Kingdom, Early Entry currently covers Flight of Passage, Na'vi River Journey, Expedition Everest, and Zootopia: Better Zoogether!, not Kali River Rapids or Kilimanjaro Safaris. Walk past Pandora's line, not into it
Most of the crowd is heading straight for Flight of Passage right now. Go to Na'vi River Journey instead, then catch Zootopia: Better Zoogether! nearby, since both are on the Early Entry list and sit close to a walk-on this early.
Cross to Asia for Everest, then wait on Kali
Expedition Everest is also on the Early Entry list and still close to a walk-on this early. Kali River Rapids isn't on the list, and Disney's own page for the ride lists a 9am opening, later than the rest of the park, so circle back once it's running.
Push Kilimanjaro Safaris back
The safari trucks peak by mid-morning and stay busy into early afternoon, then the wait collapses once the afternoon clears out. Ride it after 3pm instead of during the morning rush.
Close with Flight of Passage
This is the only real dip Flight of Passage gets all day, in the last two hours before close. Everyone who rope-dropped it this morning already used up their one ride; you get yours cheaper.

Na'vi River Journey
Early Theme Park Entry gets you into Pandora 30 minutes before the general public, and both Na'vi River Journey and Flight of Passage are on Disney's Early Entry list. Na'vi sits at a median of 10 minutes at open and only builds from here, while Flight of Passage is already long and only really drops in the last two hours before close, so ride Na'vi now and save the headliner for the end.
Zootopia: Better Zoogether!
Zootopia: Better Zoogether! is also on the Early Entry list, and its wait barely moves off a median of 10 minutes all day. Grab it now, on the way toward Asia, while Kali River Rapids is still closed.
Expedition Everest
Cross into Asia now, while it's still close to a walk-on. Everest is on the Early Entry list too and holds near a median of 5 minutes early on, climbing to 40 to 45 minutes by late morning, so this is the cheapest it gets all day.
Kali River Rapids
Kali isn't on Disney's Early Entry list, and the ride's own page lists a 9am opening, later than the rest of the park. Circle back now that it's running: it's still near a median of 5 minutes at this hour and climbs to 45 to 50 minutes by early afternoon.
Kilimanjaro Safaris
The safari trucks already peaked near 50 minutes by mid-morning and have come back down. The wait collapses to a median of 10 minutes once the afternoon clears out, and you're catching it right as that happens.
Avatar Flight of Passage
This is the only real dip Flight of Passage gets, when the median drops to about 35 minutes in the last two hours before close. Everyone who rope-dropped it this morning paid a lot more for the same ride.
Na'vi River Journey
Without Early Entry you're walking in with everyone else, and most of that crowd is heading straight for Flight of Passage. Let them. Na'vi sits at a median of 10 minutes at open and only builds from here.
Zootopia: Better Zoogether!
The wait barely moves off a median of 10 minutes for most of the day, so catch it now before the crowds build, on your way toward Asia.
Expedition Everest
Everest is next. The wait has ticked up to around 20 minutes by 9, still well under its late-morning peak of 40 to 45, so it's worth riding now before it climbs further.
Kali River Rapids
Kali isn't on Disney's Early Entry list, and it doesn't matter here either, since the ride's own page lists a 9am opening for everyone. It's still near a median of 5 minutes this early and climbs to 45 to 50 minutes by early afternoon.
Kilimanjaro Safaris
The safari peaked near 50 minutes by mid-morning and has already dropped off. Riding after 3pm catches the wait once it's collapsed to a median of 10 minutes.
Avatar Flight of Passage
Save it for the last two hours before close, the only time the median actually drops, to about 35 minutes. Racing here at rope drop just gets you the same long line hours earlier.

Two ways to run the day depending on whether you have Early Entry, but the order underneath is the same: ride Na'vi and Everest as soon as they're open, pick up Kali once it opens, let Kilimanjaro Safaris cool off past 3, and close with Flight of Passage instead of opening with it. Most of the next 60 days run 8am to 6pm (48 of 60), so times here assume that window; on the handful of days that stay open until 7 or 8, the same order holds, there's just more room at the end for Flight of Passage.
